REBORN OUT OF SPEAKERS

By Guy Drieghe in Studio 3

The invention of the analog music-synthesizer, now about 5 decennia ago, has been an important (r)evolution in the world of music. It made totally new sound explorations possible. Even after more recent digital developments, the directness of control and the unique sound of a discrete analog system still fascinates many composers and musicians. The fast and stepless transition from one sound condition to the other is unrealizable even with the most advanced digital syntheziers and we are more and more convinced that our ear is extremely sensitive to it.

Not only in contemporary classic music, but also in other music genres such as electro, trance, dance, synthpop, techno, noise and IDM, the analog synthesizer is back now more than ever. Guy Drieghe-D, VETERAN synthesizer expert, holds a few workshops and a concert at Champ d’Action in Studio 3. A better introduction into the secrets of vco’s, vcf’s vca’s, lfo’s, ringmodulators etc. is hard to imagine. He will also present the restored synthesizer that he built in 1980-81 with Wim Verheyen (the illustrious Aemit), as well as an extensive analog modular system (Serge) that he worked on intensively for the past 3 years. In the workshops, we work with a new, compact modular system that is currently in production by Guy.

At the concert after the workshops he performs a new composition (Pèr Endula) as well as a few reference works from the early years of electronical music.
