Serge Verstockt has written a composition inspired by the marches in Binche for concert band and electronics.
Serge Verstockt: 'When deSingel asked me to write a work for concert band 'de Scheldezonen' and to come up with a programme concept, I didn't have to think it over for very long. Marches, with all of their historical connotations, have always fascinated me. The Napoleonic marches, which are still performed during the carnival parades in Binche, will be featured especially. they will be disrupted and deformed in various ways to create a gigantic, anarchistic 'Electro/Free-Jazz' march. Concert band de Scheldezonen, laptop and musicians with thundering loops, blips an bleeps hope to arrive in this way at a march for the future in which stepping neatly in time will become virtually impossible.'
In addition to the work of Serge Verstockt for Scheldezonen and Champ d'Action, Stefan Prins will also create a new composition for the Junior division of the Scheldezonen. This new composition will also be premiered at the concert at deSingel.
