LABORATORIUM 2007 FINAL CONCERT

On Thursday 10 May 2007 the participation project LABORATORY will be concluded with a large final concert at the Blauwe zaal of deSingel.
This specialisation project for MA students instrument and/ or composition is an initiative of Champ d’Action, deSingel and the Antwerp Conservatory. In workshops, lectures, showcases,... the student can explore the contemporary performance practice in a very close way for the duration of the entire academic year. The legendary Slovenian composer Vinko Globokar (°1934) is the central subject. The main body of this concert consists of his monumental ensemble piece ‘Eisenberg’. This work is eminently suitable for performance by musicians of Champ d’Action, together with one or several students for each section. Dyed in the wool Champ-musicians such as cello player Arne Deforce, clarinet player Jaan Bossier, percussionist Fedor Teunisse and pianist Yutaka Oya will be leading those sections. Depending on the results of the LABORATORY project, one or more students will get the opportunity to perform additional compositions by Globokar.
For this concert, Champ d’Action also commissioned a composition from Richard Barrett (°1959). This British composer is renowned for his electro-acoustic works. For the ensemble Champ d’Action, which focuses on the use of electronics in its concert programs, he is an ideal composer in that respect.
