IN C - OPENING NEW BUILDING DESINGEL ANTWERP

On the occasion of the opening weekend of deSingel’s new buildings.

 

Champ d’Action and Serge Verstockt monitor the artistic coordination of 13 different ensembles during a performance of the legendary minimal piece ‘In C’ by Terry Riley on the occasion of the opening of deSingel’s new buildings in October 2010. ‘In C’ is one of the rare contemporary music compositions that can be played by large heterogeneous groups without losing artistic quality. The piece’s direct experience is immense and the discharge at the end of the concert is particularly intense for both the musicians and the audience.

The performance is in the hands of both professional ensembles that are regulars at deSingel and student groups: Bl!ndman, Hermes Ensemble, I Solisti del Vento, Spectra Ensemble and others. The musical groups are spread over different halls and spaces in the new buildings of deSingel. The audience is able to explore different spaces one after another for an hour –the duration of ‘In C’- and is thus able to see and hear different formations playing the same piece at the same time. One clicktrack keeps the beat throughout the entire complex.
