Installations by Alvian Lucier, Serge Verstockt, Kurt Van Houtte and Tim Vets
Performances of works by Vinko Globokar, Ann Eysermans, Tom Johnson, Stefan Prins and Cornelius Cardew.
The ACTION! HAPPENING concludes the first edition of the COME ON! Festival. Champ d'Action will present a series of installations and performances that embody the intrinsic energy and tensions of 'on the spot' creation. It is this same energy that the composers and performers sought to regain in response to the sterile and rigid attitude of the postwar composers. In a quest for the magic and spontaneity of the moment of creation, space and sound are inseparably bound together in installations such as 'I am sitting in a room' by the American composer Alvin Lucier (1931) and 'Nine Bells' by Tom Johnson (1939). The tension between improvisation and score is addressed in pivotal works by Vinko Globokar and Cornelius Cardew. Hear, see and discover: that is the motto of this happening in which suprises await behind every door of the Concertgebouw Brugge!
