Transit

In this edition of the Transit Festival, Champ d’Action is directed by Lithuanian composer and conductor Vykintas Baltakas, who moved from his home country to Leuven in 2008, where he will now step into the spotlight for the first time. For each work in his ‘oeuvre in progress’, Baltakas nailed down new musical criteria. He wrote a new composition for ensemble and electronics especially for Transit Festival and Champ d’Action.

With composer Stefan Prins, the musical output is also continuously moving. Champ d’Action performs the Belgian première of Prins’ new piece at the Transit Festival, which he composed for his Staubach Award at the Internationales Musikinstitut Darmstadt, premiering in July 2010.

Simon Steen Andersen seamlessly connects to the other two composers with his Scandinavian inventiveness. In his ‘Chambered Music’, he, for example, lets a vague voice recite Mandela’s prison diary, places the trombonist backstage and sets up metronomes hidden in boxes.
